Eco Youth Network Uganda: “Inspiring Green Generations” By Pacific Byiringiro (Founder of the Eco Youth Network Uganda) After realizing the urgent need for environmental awareness and action in Wakiso District, Uganda due to the rising threats of climate change, pollution, and deforestation, the Eco Youth Network Uganda (EYNU) was formed to empower young people to become leaders in protecting our planet, as well as to fight malnutrition by promoting and teaching Sustainable Agriculture within the community. The idea of EYNU was started on 10th May 2025 by Pacific and Ethan. By 25th July 2025, the Eco Youth Network Uganda was officially registered as a Community-Based Organisation and currently consists of 21 members and 2 partner schools. However, we aim to expand the network as much as possible. The Eco Youth Network Uganda focuses on promoting awareness and taking action for environmental conservation. Our activities include tree planting, community outreach teachings, and establishing environmental and eco clubs within schools and communities. EYNU also works to fight *hidden hunger*—a condition where a person eats enough to feel full but still suffers from malnutrition due to a lack of a balanced diet. We address this by practicing Sustainable Agriculture on three rented plots. This approach is similar to the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model but is designed specifically to teach youths and young adults. Our main crops include vegetables and cereals. The harvests are consumed by club members, while some are sold to raise funds to support our projects. EYN is still a non-profit organization, and many discussions are underway to explore how it can transition into a sustainable business model, reducing reliance on donations. In addition to local meetings, we are in contact with Luis and Dr. Dorothee, who are assisting us in these brainstorming sessions. Written by Pacific Byiringiro Founder, Eco Youth Network Uganda
